WHY?

The single word muttered by my husband as we unpacked the kid’s valentines that came home from school. I too wondered WHY?

WHY are we making Fruit Loop flavored “fruit snacks”?
WHY are we giving these to toddlers?
WHY do we label something a “fruit snack” instead of what it truly is: candy?
WHY do people ignore the research on sugar consumption and artificial dyes?
WHY are people feeding this to their kids?
WHY are we allowing companies to manufacture and sell these food-like products?
WHY would anyone eat this?

I’m finding myself growing increasingly more frustrated at the way people are feeding their kids & the way they are eating and mostly the way people are finding ways to justify it. Interestingly enough after just a few years together my husband is now also starting to see what I see. The way we feed our kids is not the “norm” and that’s so sad. We should be doing better by our kids. I know every parent is tired & overwhelmed….let me tell you something, so am I but I keep going. I prioritize my kid’s health because I want them to live an easier life, not one plagued by medical issues & illness. I want them to live a longer life (PS: for the first time in history we are going to see this generation have a shorter lifespan than those in the past). I want them to have a healthy relationship with food & their bodies. I want them to be nourished by what they eat not poisoned by what we feed them.

I often wonder do people just not care? Are they lazy? Lack of information isn’t really an excuse anymore as we have a wealth of nutrition information available to us.

We need to stop making excuses & truly start asking WHY? Why do you feed your kids the way you do and is it the best thing for their health? And if not, what can you do to change that starting today? And guys, this isn’t just about our kids this is about how we are feeding & nourishing ourselves as well.
